Waveguide metamaterial rod as mechanical acoustic filter for enhancing nonlinear ultrasonic detection

چکیده
Nonlinear ultrasonic guided waves are among the most promising new tools for early stage damage detection owing to their high sensitivity and long-range propagation features. However, signatures from instrumentation, transducers, couplant effects create false positives mixing with material- or defect-induced nonlinearities, leading inaccurate measurements. Here, we propose a novel technique using waveguide metamaterial rod, which acts as mechanical acoustic filter suppression of higher harmonic components in measured signal. The proposed consists an array flat axisymmetric ridges arranged periodically on surface rod. It is experimentally demonstrated that filtered when rod placed at transmission side, thus removing unwanted nonlinearities received signal pitch-catch configuration. Furthermore, application this method by detecting discontinuity workpiece through its nonlinear response enhanced metamaterial. This attractive material diagnosis engineering, biomedicine, health monitoring critical engineering assets.

Acoustic metamaterial for subwavelength edge detection
Metamaterials have demonstrated the possibility to produce super-resolved images by restoring propagative and evanescent waves. However, for efficient information transfer, for example, in compressed sensing, it is often desirable to visualize only the fast spatial variations of the wave field (carried by evanescent waves), as the one created by edges or small details. Image processing edge det...

We show that a rectangular metallic waveguide loaded with metamaterial elements consisting of electric-field-coupled (ELC) resonators placed at the sidewalls can operate well below the cutoff frequency of the respective unloaded waveguide. For the example considered of a waveguide with square cross-section and original TE-mode cut-off frequency at 16.67 GHz (under no loading), a TE-mode passban...

We show the feasibility of controlling the magnetic permeability of optical semiconductor devices on InP-based photonic integration platforms. We have achieved the permeability control of GaInAsP/InP semiconductor waveguides by combining the waveguide with a metamaterial consisting of gate-controlled split ring resonators. The split-ring resonators interact magnetically with light travelling in...
متن کاملBroadband gradient impedance matching using an acoustic metamaterial for ultrasonic transducers
High-quality broadband ultrasound transducers yield superior imaging performance in biomedical ultrasonography. However, proper design to perfectly bridge the energy between the active piezoelectric material and the target medium over the operating spectrum is still lacking. Here, we demonstrate a new anisotropic cone-structured acoustic metamaterial matching layer that acts as an inhomogeneous...
متن کاملNonlinear acoustic techniques for landmine detection.
Measurements of the top surface vibration of a buried (inert) VS 2.2 anti-tank plastic landmine reveal significant resonances in the frequency range between 80 and 650 Hz. Resonances from measurements of the normal component of the acoustically induced soil surface particle velocity (due to sufficient acoustic-to-seismic coupling) have been used in detection schemes. Since the interface between...
